What is the Total Protection Roofing System?

The Owens Corning Total Protection Roofing System® (TPRS) is an integrated system of 11 components across three layers: Seal (deck defense, ice & water barrier, starter shingles), Defend (shingles, hip & ridge caps), and Breathe (ventilation). Each component is engineered to work with the others. As an Owens Corning Preferred Contractor, DT Exteriors installs the complete system — not just shingles — and unlocks extended warranties up to 50 years.

The Three Critical Layers

SEAL

Lock out water at the deck level

  • WeatherLock® Ice & Water Barrier — Self-sealing membrane at eaves, valleys, and penetrations. Critical for Wisconsin ice dams.
  • Deck Defense® — Synthetic roof underlayment. Protects the entire deck from moisture infiltration during and after installation.
  • Starter Strip Shingles — Pre-cut starter strips at eaves and rakes. Creates the first line of wind-blow-off defense.

Promote proper attic ventilation

  • VentSure® Rigid Roll Ridge Vent — Allows heat and moisture to escape from the attic, preventing ice dam formation and extending shingle life.
  • Balanced Intake/Exhaust — Proper soffit-to-ridge airflow ratio. Reduces attic temperatures by up to 40°F in summer.
